Frnaža (brickyard) Factory
In 1922, the Frnaža (brickyard) building at Blanča replaced the old brickyard, which had been demolished in the war and was located behind the cemetery. It was erected along St Gabriel Street, right in front of the former cemetery. The main, 125-metre-long building was surrounded with the driers for bricks, an administrative building and auxiliary facilities. The 50-metre-high brick chimney was the highest facility far and wide. Today’s Pine Grove is all that remains of the former clay pit. In the abandoned brickyard, youth and, subsequently, front work brigades were formed, which built Nova Gorica. The Frnaža building was the springboard from which the town was built. It was a cultural and social centre as well as home to various activities which did not have their own premises. Inhabitants used to call it a "supermarket" and a “palace of nations”. Due to the bad hygiene conditions and the obsolete building, the custodians decided to gradually demolish the whole complex. Therefore, in 1957, the chimney fell first and then, in 1966, the back was removed. Today, the facility at 4 Erjavčeva Street is an administrative building of the previous Frnaža building and there is the registered office of the Nova Gorica Local Community.
