At the Conservation and Restoration Department of Goriški muzej, the work is divided into workshops for paintings, archaeological artefacts and wooden objects. Conservators-restorers are on a mission to physically protect (conserve) objects and collections by using the latest technologies and materials, so that heritage can be used and enjoyed, while at the same time preserved for the future. Their expert knowledge helps them to recognise the properties of the materials and the techniques used to make the objects, to understand what endangers them, and how these external agents of deterioration can be controlled and prevented. They also endeavour to restore selected objects to their original form and image (restoration). By cooperating with other disciplines (archaeologists, art historians, ethnologists, chemists, etc.) they try to achieve the best possible results.
