Vladimir Makuc is one of the most beloved and recognizable Slovenian artists of the 20th century. With his unmistakable style and creative freedom, he became a visual icon and rightfully entered Slovenia’s collective consciousness—even before receiving the Prešeren Award for lifetime achievement, the highest recognition in the field of arts in Slovenia.

On the first floor of Kromberk Castle, a new room was opened to the public in June 2024, exhibiting a collection of Biedermeier furniture pieces. The room was brought to life through cross-border collaboration with the Palazzo Coronini Cronberg Fundation from Gorizia who has lent the restored furniture pieces to the Regional Museum Goriški muzej.

At Kromberk Castle, in the first-floor foyer, you can visit the temporary exhibition "preVETRItev/interVENTI in castello," curated by Katarina Brešan and Massimo Premuda. The exhibition displays selected projects by Miela Reina and her Trieste colleagues, placed in dialogue with works by Vasja Žbona, from the art collection of the Regional Museum Goriški muzej, along with three contemporary artists.

The exhibition is part of the project Marcello Mascherini, a sculptor among poets and writers of the twentieth century, promoted by the Archivio Marcello Mascherini in partnership with the Goriški muzej.

Vanja Mervič is a painter by training, but he uses different artistic techniques, since each idea has its own specific way of expression. In his works he addresses themes that concern the world beyond the visible layers of materiality, both the microstructure of matter and the world of the immaterial, of ideas, thoughts and energy. His artistic practice is thus connected to the modern scientific and material vision of the world but at the same time tends towards the primordial, the eternal, the inexplicable, which goes beyond the material.

The Kromberk Castle, together with the Kulturni center Lojze Bratuž and the Kulturni dom of Gorizia, as well as the Beneška gallery of San Pietro al Natisone, is involved in the anthological exhibition project of Roberto Faganel and his son David Faganel. A selection of the works donated by Roberto Faganel to the Goriški muzej in 2012 is presented here, with the addition of the paintings from the mature work of the architect and painter David Faganel.

The Mattador Cultural Association (Associazione Culturale Mattador) was established in Trieste on 28 July 2009 with the aim of organizing and carrying on the Mattador International Screenplay Award dedicated to Matteo Caenazzo from Trieste. Matteo graduated in pictorial decoration at the Nordio Art School of his city and was a student at the Ca'Foscari University of Venice.

The Italian artist Anna Pontel from Udine presents herself to the Slovenian public with two projects: sculptures and drawings from the Pet items cycle are on display at the Gong Gallery in Nova Gorica, and the installation Hommáge to Zoran Mušič at the Kromberk Castle, which includes the works by Zoran Mušič from the museum collection in Dobrovo.

Over the decades, Franc Golob has moved in a wide media field: from painting, graphic design, photography, video, to classical and computer graphics, his artistic personality has been shaped even by activism and artistic events. When we discover and recognize his development from (pre) study beginnings to the end of studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, which took place within classical art practices, to a bold postgraduate entry into the field of extended media (photography, graphic design, video …), where he operated for more than a decade, and his returning to painting, is not enough to focus on a single point.

The exhibition narrates about Slovenians from Primorska region in Celje after World War 1. Originally it was on display in the gallery of the Museum of Recent History Celje, with which they marked the centenary of the end of World War I at the museum. As a temporary exhibition it is gonna be on display in the regional museum Goriški muzej for approximately one year.

Rafael Podobnik has donated his ethnological collection “Native Faith. Cult Stones and Gifts” to the Regional Museum Goriški muzej. The collection comprises 65 exhibits collected between 1992 and 2018 between the Trenta Valley and the Kras region. The exhibition bearing the same title is accompanied by a catalogue, video and Podobnik's photographs, which complement the exhibits with intangible contents.

For a (too) long time, the role of women in World War I was a neglected historiographical topic. In order to fill that historiographical gap and familiarise the broader public with new historiographical findings, we have prepared exhibitions on women who lived and worked during the war.

A Retrospective Exhibition of Paintings by Luka Širok

The Austrian Jewish composer Viktor Ullmann witnessed the poison gas attack at the Isonzo Front near Bovec during the staging of the 12th Battle of the Isonzo on 24th October 1917 during World War I as an artillery observer in the Austro-Hungarian Army; in World War II on 18th October 1944 he became a victim of poison gas in the German concentration camp Auschwitz.

This exhibition was created as a result of the initiative and fieldwork of the Hum Village Community.

An archaeological exhibition is on display at Dobrovo Castle entitled “Ad sanctos. Archaeological Research at the Church of St Leonard in Dolnje Cerovo”.

On the 60th anniversary of the birth of Klavdij Tutta, Kromberk Castle has prepared a retrospective exhibition, which covers all of the artist's creative cycles, from the early 1980s to the present day. “Klavdij Tutta is a Slovenian artist of Mediterranean breadth, which he creates with optimism, cheerfulness, topicality and all earnestness amid his daily problems, while remembering the Mediterranean vastness with a view of infinity, which can be limited only by one's personal horizon” writes Milena Koren Božiček.
